3G
or "3rd generation" is the newest generation of wireless systems
providing packet-based transmission of text, digitized voice, video and multimedia
data date rates up to 2 megabits per second (Mbps) in fixed, portable and
mobile environments.
3G represents the major shift from voice-centric services to multimedia-oriented like video, voice, data, fax services. Because 3G is not dependent on circuit availability and its use of Internet Protocol, it supports a virtual connection that is always available to any end point in the network.
3G
systems include three operating modes: CDMA2000, W-CDMA and TD-SCDMA that
provide the ability to unify existing cellular standards such as CDMA, TDMA
and GSM. 3G technology represents the convergence of various 2G
wireless telecommunications systems into a single uniform global system, which
includes terrestrial and satellite components offering a consistent set of
services to mobile computer and phone users regardless of location.
3G provides access to services unavailable with previous technologies:
The 3G Wireless Data Architecture was the first comprehensive data architecture solution available to 3G service providers and is in use at leading telecommunications companies in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
Providing
a faster and less-risky path for telecom carriers in their drive to provide
additional services to their customers, the ADRM 3G Wireless data architecture
solution goes beyond supporting traditional services to address the new generation
of data products and services that increasingly drive the revenue and profitability
of leading edge carriers.
